Conor McGregor’s sparring sessions get more attention than most fighters’ fights.

More than a year after McGregor’s pair of aggressive spars with former two-weight boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi, what went down in the ring is still being discussed.

Malignaggi is still furious about how the encounter was portrayed by McGregor’s camp in the build-up to the Irishman’s professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather.

A photograph of a floored Malignaggi was followed by a short clip of the exchange which sent ‘The Magic Man’ to the canvas but the men involved in the sparring session have a different take on what happened.

McGregor maintains that he landed flush with a punch while Malignaggi is adamant that he was pushed down.

McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh has since given an exciting update to fans as he revealed on the Joe Rogan Experience that Netflix was in the process of producing a series about the infamous spar.

“I think there’s something being released on Netflix soon,” Kavanagh said.

“A documentary based around that fight, and it will have all the rounds.

“As far as I’m aware, I did an interview for it recently.

“It’s a three-part documentary that’s going to be on Netflix soon, so people will be able to make up their own minds about it.”

The sparring sessions with Malignaggi have been described as trial fights for McGregor, with celebrities reportedly in attendance, and esteemed boxing referee Joe Cortez was drafted in to oversee the rounds.

Malignaggi has not forgotten about his feud with McGregor and continues to take every opportunity possible to mock ‘The Notorious’.

Fresh from McGregor’s submission defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on Saturday night, Malignaggi laid into the Dubliner.

The New Yorker told FightHype.com: “I did see the McGregor fight with Khabib and I didn’t really have a conclusion about it, it’s what I’ve been saying. I don’t know how many of these bitches need to keep doubting what I’ve been saying.

“This guy’s got no balls, no character, and he showed that in the fight again.”

Kavanagh has also hinted at a possible sanctioned boxing match between his star fighter and Malignaggi, insisting that several options were on the table for McGregor.
