It appears that Louis van Gaal has been searching in all the wrong places for a new defender.
Now that Manchester United’s pursuit of Sergio Ramos is finally over, perhaps the Dutchman will turn his attention somewhere a little closer to home.
We think that Van Gaal should at least consider a move for Sligo Rovers defender Tim Clancy – who put in the ultimate centre-half performance against in his team’s relegation scrap with Derry City in the Irish Premier Division.

While most footballers these days – and let’s be honest, most of us – would probably see a dislocated shoulder as a reason to leave the field, Clancy takes a much calmer approach.
After the game, he gave an interview in which he very briefly explains his decision to pop his shoulder back in with all the enthusiasm of a man chatting with his barber about the weather:
But Clancy is no one-trick pony, as he scored the goal that would eventually win the game for Sligo and bring them level on points with Derry – and six points ahead of bottom side Limerick.
Sign him up, Louis.
