Manchester United’s nine-match winning run came to an end of Sunday – but a second half goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic ensured they are still unbeaten in 16.
It’s a great run after a shaky start to the season and Swedish striker Ibrahimovic has taken much of the praise after netting 13 goals in his last 13 matches.
But a less-heralded member of Jose Mourinho’s team who has also been helping with their flying form.
Antonio Valencia pitched in with the assist for Zlatan’s leveller on Sunday, and it turns out the Ecuadorian right back is top of the class when it comes to crosses this season.
According to data provided by EA Sports, Valencia has pinged in more crosses than any other player in the Premier League this term.
The 31-year-old has pinged in 26 deliveries so far this term, two ahead of nearest rival Kevin de Bruyne in second place.
But despite his prolific crossing rate, Sunday’s assist was Valencia’s first all season – proof that quantity doesn’t necessarily mean quality.
Still, it seems his form is enough for United to trigger a contract extension clause that means he will stay at the club until at least June 2018.

A club statement confirmed the news.
“Valencia has made 271 appearances, scored 21 goals and won six trophies since joining from Wigan Athletic in 2009. He also claimed a hat-trick of individual awards in the 2011/12 season when voted the Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year, while also winning the club’s Goal of the Season prize.
“The 31-year-old has become a vital member of Jose Mourinho’s team by starting 23 matches in all competitions this campaign, enhancing his reputation as one of the finest right-backs around. In recognition of his top form, he was voted United’s Player of the Month for November by the fans.
“Valencia is currently enjoying his eighth season with the Reds and this one-year contract extension will take him to the end of the 2017/18 campaign. Congratulations, Antonio.”
