It looks like we’re getting Tyson Fury vs. Shannon Briggs in April

Let's go champ

The press conferences are going to be entertaining.

Two of the biggest personalities the heavyweight division has ever seen are expected to do battle in 2018, with Shannon Briggs revealing that he’s in talks to welcome Tyson Fury back to the ring in April.

Fury’s comeback after two years out of the fight game took a huge step in the right direction earlier this month, when he saw his UK Anti-Doping ban backdated, and he is now expected to have his boxing licence reinstated upon review by the British Boxing Board of Control next month.

He’s already well on his way to shedding the considerable weight he gained in his time away from the sport and is expected to put his undefeated record on the line in a couple of fights before setting his sights on a monster all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua in the latter months of next year.

Briggs is confident that he will be Fury’s first opponent since his victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, telling TMZ Sports that negotiations have taken place with Fury’s camp.

“I feel like the fight is going to happen next year we’ve been talking for some time now,” Briggs said.

“It’s going to be a great fight, he’s been off for two to three years now, I’ve been off for over a year, I’m going to beat his ass.”

Briggs, famed for his “Let’s go champ!” catchphrase, was suspended by the WBA for six months in the summer after failing a drugs test but, even at the age of 46, ‘The Cannon’ isn’t entertaining the idea of hanging up his gloves.

“He’s got heart and he ain’t scared of me,” Briggs said of ‘2 Fast’.

“He’s like you know what, this is a great fight, he realises that this is a great fight for England – a great fight as he’ll be seen by the Americans.

“This is a guy stepping up to the plate and I respect him for that.”

After predicting that he would knock Fury out in the first round, Briggs revealed when the fight would take place.

“We’re looking at April right now,” he said.
