Nemanja Matic is Jose Mourinho’s latest signing.
Last week, the Manchester United manager made it clear that he wanted a midfielder and a winger to sign for the club before the transfer window shut and half of his wish has already come true.
Monday saw confirmation of Matic’s move from Chelsea confirmed, with the Serbian international signing on a three-year deal with an option to extend for a further year.
A picture did the rounds on social media on Sunday which suggested that Matic would take the No. 31 shirt which was left vacant by Bastian Schweinsteiger last season.
And the photo was proven legitimate just 24 hours later as the club unveiled the 28-year-old as their third high-profile signing of the summer, following on from the arrivals of Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof.
“Nemanja is a Manchester United player and a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player,” Mourinho said.

“I would like to thank him for his desire to join us because without that, it would be impossible to have him here. I am sure our players and supporters will love him. A big welcome to our new number 31.”
Mourinho previously worked with Matic at Chelsea and with the midfielder’s switch to Old Trafford, he becomes the 14th player to play for Mourinho at more than one club.

“I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” Matic said.
“I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them.
“This is a very exciting time for the club and I am looking forward to playing my part in creating more history for this great club.”
