Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish pleads guilty to careless driving

The first took place on March 29, during the first national lockdown, when his Range Rover was involved in an accident in  Dickens Heath near Solihull.

A second incident took place near Villa’s training ground on October 18 and was revealed by court documents released before the hearing at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.

The incident in March saw damage to two other vehicles and Grealish was also charged with failing to stop at the scene and also failing to report it. The 25-year-old denied these two additional charges, however, and they were dismissed after the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.

The more recent incident saw him accused of driving without due care and attention on Bodymoor Heath Road – close to Villa’s training complex. That same day, he was also seen tailgating other vehicles on the M42 and driving his Range Rover at 98 mph by police in an unmarked car.

Grealish did not appear in court, entering his plea via his lawyer. He already has six points on his licence relating to a speeding offence in 2018. He could, the judge said, face a driving ban. Sentencing was adjourned until 15 December.
