Jack Wilshere responds brilliantly to fan’s Football Manager criticism of him

At least he could see the funny side

Jack Wilshere has had a difficult career, there is little denying it. From bossing Barcelona in the Champions League as a teenager and having the world at his feet, to being without a club at a time when he should have been in his prime, as fans talk incessantly about the ‘what ifs’ of it all.

Wilshere now finds himself at Aarhus Gymnastikforening (AGF) in the Danish Superliga – Denmark’s top flight – having last played competitive football for Bournemouth in 2021.

In interviews throughout the past few years, Wilshere has always cut a considered figure, and not necessarily one to pity himself despite the years of bad luck he has endured. And on Wednesday, in an exchange with a fan on Twitter, he once again showed his ability to laugh at himself.

Wilshere shared a conversation between two Twitter users, with one revealing that they had taken a chance on him in the latest edition of Football Manager. “Took a chance on Jack Wilshere in FM22,” read the tweet. “Four appearances later, he’s out for three months.”

Another account replied “Are you surprised?” with several funny emojis, before the original poster revealed the true issues at heart.

He added: “Then he complained about me not signing enough people in midfield. Wanted a transfer away. Not realising he will fail his medical no matter where he went. I’ve got an injury release clause on him as well, but I’d rather him suffer in the under-23s.”

Wilshere’s diagnoses of it all? “Mismanagement,” he joked, before revealing that the exchange had made him laugh.

The 30-year-old has made two substitute appearances since joining AGF, where he will remain until the end of the 2021/22 season.
