Not many people would have expected this from Jack Wilshere.
The football world was left saddened by the news of Daniel Agger’s early retirement from professional football.
The former Liverpool defender had been playing back in his home country with Brondby for the past couple of seasons, but he announced on Thursday that he would be hanging up his boots for good due to persistent troubles with injuries.
Unsurprisingly, the tributes began flooding in for the man who played for the guts of nine seasons at the heart of Liverpool’s defence but rather surprisingly, one of them came from none other than Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.
Shame to hear @DanielAgger has retired. One of the toughest defenders I have played against.Congratulations on a great career!

Touching words from the polarising England midfielder, particularly considering he’s had previous with the Dane.
Agger broke Wilshere’s foot with a heavy challenge just 12 minutes into during England’s 1-0 win over Denmark in 2014. When he was ‘reminded’ of the incident by one Twitter user, Wilshere kept his response simple.
Foot actually….but that's football! https://t.co/CT95iHOz69
