It was a weird choice, tbf

Let’s be honest, there were better goals scored in the past 12 months.

You had the unforgettable overhead kicks from Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, you had the unexpected strike from Benjamin Pavard at the World Cup and hell, you had a few from Mohamed Salah that were better than his curler against Everton.

Salah had a mixed evening at Fifa’s ‘The Best’ ceremony on Monday night as he bizarrely failed to make it into the FIFPro XI despite the fact that he was one of three players in the running to be named the best player in the world.

Before those awards were handed out, the Liverpool forward won the Puskas Award for his gorgeous effort against Everton last December, much to the shock of those watching.

The goal was a cracker, there’s no doubting that but many supporters felt that it wasn’t even Salah’s best goal in his stunning debut season at Anfield.

Salah’s teammate James Milner spoke for several fans with his take on the award.

Milner jokingly claimed that Salah scored no fewer than six better goals for the Reds after his £36.9 million move from Roma.

Salah ended up netting an impressive total of 44 goals in 52 games for Liverpool last season.
