More than 20 clubs enquired about James Wilson once Louis van Gaal signalled that the striker would be available for a loan move.
Despite the 19-year-old’s desire to stay and prove himself at Old Trafford, the Man United boss was intent on sending him out to gain experience elsewhere. Once the transfer window closed, there was a plethora of Championship clubs eager to borrow his talents.
But now, perhaps due to Wayne Rooney’s iffy form and Marouane Fellaini’s underwhelming displays up front, the Dutchman has had a change of heart. It now seems that Wilson is suddenly an important part of Van Gaal’s plans again.
Wolves boss Kenny Jackett was one of those interested in the youngster, but he has now been informed that Wilson is going nowhere, and is very much needed at Old Trafford.
As Jackett explains:
“The information is he’s not available. They’re keeping him there for the time being.
“There’s been a number of clubs who have enquired about him and at one stage they’d been saying perhaps he could go. The timing of it is always something and if he was available would there be some interest from us? There has been in the past, yes.”
It’s something of a bizarre 360 by Van Gaal, but hardly out of character. Adnan Januzaj was a focal part of his side in the first few games of the season, only to be sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund on the final day of the transfer window.
United fans will be hoping that Wilson, an actual striker, will be allowed the opportunity to play as an actual striker. Rather than say Fellaini, who is not an actual striker.
