Carragher believes it’s a chance for the United players to impress
Jamie Carragher has claimed that the Manchester United players ‘should be playing to impress’ new interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
The former RB Leipzig boss is set to be announced as the Red Devils interim boss following the recent dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian’s time as United manager came to an end after they were embarrassed 4-1 by Watford.
Although Michael Carrick is the current caretaker boss – and is taking charge of United’s Premier League clash at Chelsea on Sunday – Carragher believes the players should now be playing to make a good impression on the incoming German.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the match, he said: “I think they should be thinking like that [impressing the new manager], they’ll get the instructions off Michael Carrick and the coaching staff and they’ll have a job to do.
“But it is in a strange situation that you don’t normally have at club level where you know what the next manager’s coming in.
“He’ll be watching the game, he’s possibility watched all of Manchester United’s game now this season.
“If I was playing, in the back of my mind I’d be thinking ‘I want to win today, I want to win for the club and Michael Carrick’ but I also want to impress the manager, because he’ll certainly be glued to his TV wherever that may be!”
United arrived at Stamford Bridge having lost five of their last seven games in the top flight, whereas Chelsea had lost just one of their opening 12 fixtures.
