We can all agree on one thing… Dejan Lovren should never have put his hands on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Coasting towards a 1-0 victory, Liverpool surrendered two crucial points when Lovren’s nudge on the Everton forward with 15 minutes remaining meant that the spoils would be shared at the end of Sunday’s Merseyside derby.
The hosts were dominating in all aspects and were rewarded by a Mohamed Salah goal before half-time but Lovren’s risky decision to put his hands on Calvert-Lewin gave Wayne Rooney the opportunity to make it 1-1 and he duly converted the spot-kick.
Contact was minimal, admittedly, but it was contact and referee Craig Pawson felt it was enough to warrant a penalty and flashed a yellow card at the Reds defender.
Jamie Carragher, who was watching the game from the Sky Sports studio, had no sympathy for Lovren whatsoever.

However Carragher’s best friend from his time at Anfield, Michael Owen, clearly disagreed with the former centre-half.
Owen remained in disbelief that the spot-kick had been awarded, suggesting that Calvert-Lewin had hit the deck far too easily.

Owen has recently gone down in several Liverpool fans’ estimations after thanking Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema’s for his refusal to move to Manchester United in 2009 because it was the French forward’s decision that paved the way for Owen to join Sir Alex’s Ferguson’s side.
A petition has been made to have Owen removed as Liverpool’s international ambassador due to the fondness with which he speaks about the Red Devils.
And after Owen, who scored 158 goals in 297 appearances for Liverpool, defended Lovren on Sunday, he was accused of pandering to his former fans in the hope of winning them back onside.
