Jamie Carragher discovers he’s been blocked as he tries to wish former teammate good luck in retirement

What a way to find out

Jamie Carragher couldn’t send his best wishes to Jose Enrique even if he wanted to.

The legendary Liverpool centre-half didn’t enjoy the best relationship with the Spaniard but we never knew that it had reached the point that Enrique felt the need to block Carragher on social media.

“I stopped talking to Enrique in the end, I had no idea what he was going to do and he didn’t listen to me anyway,” Carragher admitted four years ago, before criticising Enrique for a lack of ambition at Anfield.

“Enrique, who has played just 12 Premier League games in the past two seasons having been the club’s first-choice left back in the previous two campaigns, said he wanted to fight for his place,” Carragher wrote in his Daily Mail column in 2015. “He added that he had looked to Spain for a move but economic conditions make it difficult.

“That translates as: I’m staying because no-one in Spain can afford me and I don’t care if I don’t play (just like last season) because I’m waiting to go on a free next summer when my contract expires.

“I am sure there are clubs in England or Spain who would want him for less money. It is about whether he really has the hunger to play even if it means a pay cut.”

At the age of 31, following a season at Real Zaragoza, Enrique made the decision to retire from professional football due to a persistent knee injury.

But Carragher wasn’t even able to wish the former Reds left back luck in his retirement because, unfortunately, Carragher has been blocked.

2017, eh?
