Former Liverpool captain Jamie Carragher thinks Manchester United have bought well this summer, but one or two players in particular stand out.
We maybe shouldn’t be surprised that the former defender picked out a member of the back-line, but Matteo Darmian has impressed Carragher more than most.
Carragher played at full-back and centre-back over the course of his career, and in his Sky Sports column he has identified the recruitment of the former Torino right-back as ‘very good’.
‘I think Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin will add to what United were perhaps lacking in central midfield, but in the striking department you are still not quite sure yet,’ Carragher added, but many United fans will share their former rival’s opinion of the Italy international.
Darmian was less heralded than other new arrivals like Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial, but he has slotted into the back four as if he has been there for years.
He looks comfortable at the back and going forward, and has already begun to soften the blow of fan favourite Rafael’s departure.
