John Arne Riise went for a diamond in the centre of the park when asked for his ultimate Liverpool XI.
The former Reds left back named himself in the position he occupied at Anfield between 2001 and 2008 and named Sami Hyypia and Daniel Agger as the central defensive partnership before deciding to play Jamie Carragher out of position at right back.
“It’s a very difficult question,” Riise told the Liverpool Echo.
“But my favourite 11 has to be. Reina, Carragher, Agger, Hyypia, Riise.
“Diamond in middle. Mascherano holding. Gerrard and Alonso next to him with Luis Garcia behind Torres and Owen… Hopefully I didn’t forget anybody.”
Not one to shy away from a Twitter exchange, Carragher boldly stated that he would be better placed at left back in response to Riise’s XI.
I should be left back!

Carragher named his ultimate Liverpool XI last year and Riise was unsurprisingly rewarded with a place at left back, although Carragher named neither Fernando Torres nor his supposed best friend, Michael Owen, in his side.
“One went to Man United and one went to Chelsea, so f**k them,” Carragher said.
