Spurs threw away a lead against Inter last night
Throughout Mauricio Pochettino’s time at Tottenham, he has done a lot to undo a lot of the clichéd opinions attached to the club. The ‘Spursy’ label was deemed no longer applicable to the club, as they overcame cursed obstacles, beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and won Champions League ties against the likes of Real Madrid.
However, the start of this season has been one of the toughest periods for the club under Pochettino. Bar beating Manchester United, they have underwhelmed, losing three games in a row under the coach for the first time.
Last night’s loss to Inter Milan in their first Champions League game of the season was a kick in the teeth, after the north Londoners took a one goal lead and threw it away in the space of 5 minutes.
Former Spurs midfielder and BT Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas was very pessimistic about the club’s current situation.
On BT Sport, Jenas said:
“They [Tottenham] invited them [Inter] back to the party to an extent. Spurs were getting into great positions and should have done better with those.
“At that point [the last 10 minutes] you’re thinking they were pressing right, and when they went back to that three in the middle, it went disjointed again.
“This is probably one of Mauricio’s lowest points he’s found himself in as Spurs manager.”
Fellow pundit Owen Hargreaves compounded Spurs’ misery, saying:
“I thought they were the better team. There was a 10 minute spell they didn’t manage the game properly.
“Inter were bang average, that’s the type of game you should win but will take a draw.
“They found a way to give the game away at the end. I don’t think Inter believed they could win the game before Icardi scored that goal.”
