Jesse Lingard may be one of Man United’s most talented prospects, but this is surely taking things too far.
Ahead of United’s Champions League encounter with PSV, the club caught up with former coach Rene Meulensteen for a match programme interview.
The Dutchman, who was Alex Ferguson’s number two for six years, certainly had some high praise for Lingard.
‘I see Lingard as the English version of [Andrés] Iniesta,’ Meulensteen told United Review.
‘He has still got a long way to go but that is the sort of player I see in him.’
It is a lofty notion, given that Lingard is taking his first strides in professional football while Iniesta has won just about every honour in the game at club and international level.
And some football fans on Twitter obviously thought Meulensteen’s comparison was a bit over the top…
@manutdupdates_ wtf!? Lingard doesn't even have an inch similarity to iniesta. Different players. Wrong comparison

Jesse Lingard is not the "English Iniesta". What is wrong with the world?
