Lingard is thought to be edging towards a permanent exit from Old Trafford
Jesse Lingard appears to have dropped a not-so-subtle hint about his future on Instagram as reports that talks over a new deal at Manchester United have collapsed.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, where he played a key role in the London club securing European football this season.
The move also reignited his England career, with Lingard only narrowly missing the cut for Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad.
Despite being linked with a permanent move to West Ham in the summer, he returned to Old Trafford to fight for his place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. However, despite United’s struggles, the 28-year-old has struggled to make regular starts.
This has seen a number of reports claim talks over extending his contract at United, which is due to expire at the end of the season, have now collapsed, with the player accepting that his future lies away from his boyhood contract.
With such reports doing the rounds, Lingard has added to speculation a move away could come as soon as January by sharing a picture of himself in a West Ham kit on his Instagram Stories.
West Ham posted an image of video of him scoring for the club against Wolves last season to their Instagram, which Lingard has subsequently shared on his Story.
Lingard’s representatives are reportedly keen to let him leave on a free next summer, but United may choose to allow him to leave in January so that they are able to get a fee for the player. West Ham is likely to be a possible destination for him, but a move abroad is also seen as a viable option.
With the Warrington born forward keen to secure a place in England’s World Cup squad in Qatar, he is thought to be eager to move in January.
