The strict policy will have ‘no exceptions’
Joan Laporta has reportedly implemented a salary cap for new signings at Barcelona as he attempts to avoid a repeat of the club’s financial chaos.
Off-field issues at the Camp Nou has seen the Catalan giants reduce the wages of a number of their first-team players, with the club’s transfer policy also changing as club chiefs target free agents and loan deals in order to keep their costs down, as per the Daily Mail.
However, recent additions, most notably the £55m signing of Ferran Torres from Manchester City, has seen Barcelona declare themselves back as ‘big market players’.
Additionally, Laporta has implemented a fresh approach to keep control over spending.
Sport have claimed that the president will impose a €10m (£8.3m) cap on the annual salary of any new player joining the Catalan giants after June 30 this year.
It adds that the strict policy will have ‘no exceptions’ – which is likely to see any negotiations with prospective additions remaining around the new figure.

However, there is also expected to big players could be compensated with an array of bonuses to tempt them to join the club.
Following Laporta’s arrival at the Camp Nou last year, the Barcelona board commissioned a damning report which found that the club were in a state of ‘technical bankruptcy’.
This was a result of high wages and the drastic loss of revenue arising from the covid-19 pandemic.
Recent reports have suggested that the Catalan giants are interesting in signing Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland, but the 21-year-old could potentially demand a salary far in excess of €10m.
