Wolves continue to strengthen ahead of their Premier League return
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Portuguese contingent looks set to grow larger this week after it emerged that the newly-promoted Premier League club were on the verge of signing AS Monaco midfielder Joao Moutinho.
Moutinho, a 31-year-old midfielder with a penchant for long range shots and deft passing, has spent five years in the principality after joining as part of the €70 million double deal which also took James Rodriguez from FC Porto.
While the vast majority of players who joined during the club’s initial investment drive under owner Dmitry Rybolovlev left when the purse strings were tightened, Moutinho remained, becoming a key figure in the side, playing 158 times since his arrival.
According to reports in the Express and Star, the Portuguese international, who has amassed 113 caps and a European Championship winners medal during his international career, will join Wolves on a £5 million deal and a two-year contract.
In moving to the club he will join fellow Portugal internationals Ruben Neves, Rui Patricio and Ivan Cavaleiro.
Patricio, Portugal’s first choice goalkeeper, moved to the club from Sporting Club de Portugal during the World Cup this summer.
Joao Moutinho to sign a permanent deal to join @Wolves, I'm told. For around £5m from @AS_Monaco_EN on a two-year deal. 113 caps for Portugal and a Euro 2016 winner.
