Joe Allen’s cult-hero status at Liverpool just got smashed into tiny, tiny pieces

This won't go down well with Liverpool supporters...

Joe Allen didn’t quite manage to fill the void left by Steven Gerrard at Liverpool, but that’s not to say the Welshman wasn’t appreciated by those at Anfield.

Liverpool supporters were saddened by the news that the Chicken & Egg magazine cover star‘s four year stay on Merseyside came to an end over the summer, with the 26-year-old penning a deal with Stoke City.

But despite his move away, the diminutive Jesusy-looking midfielder still managed to put a smile on the faces of the Anfield faithful just before the international break.

Life at his new club hadn’t really got off to the best of starts for Allen, with Stoke sitting bottom of the table after six winless games as they visited Old Trafford. Despite a dominant display from Manchester United, Jose Mourinho’s side only had a slender 1-0 lead as the game entered its final ten minutes.

Stoke had hardly threatened in the second half, yet a rare saunter forward saw the ball eventually fall at Allen’s feet, who nudged the ball home for an equaliser. A valuable point for struggling Stoke, but two points dropped for United – something which delighted Liverpool fans.

Days later, Allen was back with his international teammates as they prepared for World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Georgia.

In between training sessions, Allen also spent some time being interviewed by seven-year-old Stefan, who just so happens to be a United supporter. Having established where Stefan’s club loyalties lie, the youngster is quick to ask Allen why he had to score against his beloved United (skip to the 1:40 mark in the video below).

“Don’t tell anyone but I was a Man U fan as well, so it was a bit tough for me to score that goal,” Allen replies.

“A bit tough” to score against United, Liverpool’s biggest rivals? That’ll go down well…
