“There is an unusual swell of fans who don’t quite get it”
Joe Cole has suggested that he wants to ‘educate’ people who don’t appreciate the positive impact that Mason Mount has on a team.
Mount scored his first hat-trick for Chelsea as the Blues battered newly-promoted side Norwich 7-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
The England midfielder has registered 42 goals and 32 assists in 200 professional appearances, but some people have criticised the 22-year-old for not tallying enough goal contributions for both club and country.
However, former Chelsea star Cole has suggested that people who have been involved in the game appreciate the positive impact that Mount has.
When asked on BT Sport whether the former Derby loanee gets the credit he deserves, Cole replied: “No he doesn’t. He does from people within the game, I’ve not met one ex-player or one coach, who doesn’t appreciate him.
“He’s a top, top, outstanding player and he’s becoming one of the most important players in the country.”

The 39-year-old also questioned why some ‘fans’ criticise the England international, stating that they need ‘educating’ about his qualities.
“There is an unusual swell of fans, maybe rival fans, who don’t quite get it,” said Cole.
“You want to sit them down in front of a touch screen and educate them and show them what this kid does.”
He added: “It must be a tribal thing, I don’t know because he is an outstanding player.
“I’m yet to meet an ex-player or coach who has a bad word to say about him.”
Mount has played in 11 of Chelsea’s 14 fixtures so far this season, scoring three goals and grabbing two assists.
