The magic of the cap.
West Ham’s first taste of FA Cup action this season saw them away at Shrewsbury Town.
The fixture was particularly significant for West Ham’s first choice goalkeeper, Joe Hart. Born in the town, Hart also began his career at the club before moving to Manchester City in 2006.
It was a sunny afternoon at New Meadow, so much so that Hart found himself in need of a cap to shield his eyes throughout the first half. Having not brought his own, one of the West Ham supporters came to the rescue.
Aside from lots of references to his Head and Shoulders advert days, plenty of people watching the game used the opportunity to make jokes about the uncertainty over Hart’s international career. Although the 30-year-old started England’s last game of 2017 against Brazil, it’s unclear yet whether he will be Gareth Southgate’s first choice goalkeeper by the time next summer’s World Cup rolls around.
While it remains to be seen if he’s handed any more caps for his country, this was the response of many people watching him in action during the first half…
That’s the last cap Joe Hart could get for a while.

Nice touch from David Moyes to play Joe Hart at Shrewsbury where it all started the irony is it’s now nearly all finished he’s even wearing a cap and that could well be his last one as well #fallfromgrace

The last cap Joe Hart should be getting – can’t see how Southgate could contemplate playing him again. https://t.co/pzfpK0Db89
