Joe Rogan discusses likelihood of Conor McGregor kicking Floyd Mayweather

It might make a few headlines

Crazier things have definitely happened.

Conor McGregor is unlikely to ever experience the frustration that will almost certainly accompany his first foray into the world of professional boxing.

Early aggression will probably be the foundation of the Irishman’s gameplan for his upcoming debut against Floyd Mayweather but if he suffers the same problems as every single one of the American fighter’s foes to date, it could be a very disheartening evening for ‘The Notorious’.

And if he does become frustrated by the defensive mastery of Mayweather, suggestions have been made that McGregor will lose his temper and resort to manoeuvres he’s accustomed to showing off in the Octagon.

The possibility of McGregor throwing a kick or engaging in a grappling gameplan has reportedly resulted in the inclusion of a stipulation in the fight contract, with a lawsuit almost guaranteed to follow any fouls from the Irishman.

“That will not happen,” White assured in relation to the possibility of McGregor throwing an elbow against the 49-0 great

“That’s absolutely in the contract, number one.

“And number two, if this is a boxing match under the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s rules of boxing… when you talk about a guy of Floyd Mayweather’s value in the sport, the lawsuit if that ever happened…

“Conor likes money, man. And Conor would depart with a lot of money if that ever happened so, no, that will not happen.”

UFC commentator Joe Rogan has also discussed the chances of seeing the enigmatic McGregor utilise MMA techniques in the ring and, while he acknowledges that it would be unacceptable behaviour, Rogan has said that ‘The Notorious’ might win a few fans if he decided to break out his kicking game against Mayweather.

“[If McGregor kicked Mayweather], that would be fucked up,” Rogan said on his podcast, via MMA Fighting. “There’s probably some stipulations in the contract that say, ‘you can’t get him in an armbar or choke him.’

“[But] could you imagine? He would be a god damn folk hero.

“If they got in close and Floyd was shucking and juking on the outside and he threw a jab to cover up a left high kick and that left high kick necks him? Just clang! And you see Floyd go limp – and he would go limp.

“He’s never been high kicked like that. Jesus, that would be crazy.”

Don’t bet on McGregor to unleash a roundhouse on the 40-year-old because he’s too intelligent a businessman to jeopardise the significant investment he’s made in this spectacle.

But it would make for some pretty incredible television.

Rogan continued: “Would it be worth it? It would but it would fuck everything up because no one would ever trust another fighter from MMA to ever fight a boxer in a boxing match again.”
