Captain, leader, free agent
John Terry remains club-less following his departure from Aston Villa at the end of last season.
The former Chelsea captain had looked set to extend his stay at Villa Park prior to their defeat in the Championship play-off final last May.
Having left the club days after their loss to Fulham, he’s since been linked with a move to Derby, where former teammate Frank Lampard has become manager. It’s also been rumoured he could call time on his playing days, with reports suggesting he may opt to take a pundit role with Sky Sports.
With still no official word on what the 37-year-old intends to do next, it’s now emerged that the manager of Yeovil Town – where Terry’s brother, Paul, is part of the coaching team – has explored the possibility of bringing him to Huish Park.
Speaking to the Roar Sport podcast, Darren Way was asked about the possibility of the former England international playing for the League Two side.
“Don’t think I have not asked that question,” he replied.
“Do you realise that conversation occurs every day?
“Last year, it’s funny you should say that because our set-plays weren’t the greatest and we just wanted more individuals to attack the ball so we set up a Skype session with John Terry.
“It was fantastic in the way that he spoke and he’s such a leader.”
Way went on to say that he believed Terry would one day follow the likes of Lampard and Steven Gerrard into management.
“It’s quite interesting now, you see Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, John Terry (and their) career pathway.
“Gerrard has just gone into Rangers, Frank Lampard has just gone into Derby and you never know, John Terry, Yeovil Town manager, if it all goes wrong for me!”
