Jonny May tackles Italy physio during England Six Nations win

Occupational hazard, we suppose

Jonny May caused a bit of a stir during England’s comprehensive Guinness Six Nations victory over Italy on Saturday.

On JOE’s House of Rugby, we have already heard James Haskell describe May as a lovely guy, but someone who literally doesn’t know where he is most of the time.

On Saturday, we got a little glimpse of that at Twickenham when May accidentally tackled Italy’s physio, who was on the pitch treating an injured player.

It’s uncommon for physios in rugby to be on the pitch – often at the centre of the action – while the game is underway, but the vast majority of players manage to avoid tackling them.

The physio was actually one of two which were in the process of leaving the pitch at the time and it would appear that despite his fluorescent bib, May briefly thought he was one of Italy’s players.

It wasn’t all bad for May though, he once again got on the scoresheet against the Italians, in a game which Eddie Jones’ side won 57 points to 14.

The win means England remain in second placed in the Six Nations table, one point behind leaders Wales, who defeated Scotland 18-11 at Murrayfield.
