Crystal Palace have got their hands on Jordan Ayew
Jordan Ayew is a decent footballer. He is technically competent, a fast runner and occasionally has an eye for goal, which would go some way towards explaining why Crystal Palace have decided to sign him.
The Ghana international spent two seasons at Swansea City prior to their relegation from the Premier League, which will see them start this season in the Championship.
Rumours had linked the forward with a move away from Wales prior to transfer deadline day, and it has now emerged that he has agreed a deal to join Crystal Palace on loan for the season.
On the face of it this is a good signing. Ayew can offer support to Roy Hodgson’s group of strikers, giving his manager the option to play him alongside Christian Benteke or Wilfried Zaha up front.
However, one look at his recent relegation record might cause a small degree of worry for Palace fans. That is because each and every one of Jordan Ayew’s last four clubs have been relegated.
Those four clubs are Sochaux, Lorient, Aston Villa and Swansea City, each of whom are now in their respective second divisions.
Does that mean categorically that Crystal Palace are going to be relegated from the Premier League? No. But if they aren’t, it will end a very worrying run for their new signing.
