You just have to laugh at this point
Jordan Henderson picked up an injury during England’s UEFA Nations League game against Belgium, Gareth Southgate has confirmed.
The midfielder felt ‘tightness’ at half-time, Southgate explained, which forced a widely derided substitution that saw Harry Winks replace Henderson for the second half.
“Jordan had a bit of tightness at half-time and felt he couldn’t carry on,” Southgate confirmed.
“We’ll have to assess him when we get back.”
Henderson’s injury is just the latest on a long list for Liverpool, who could be without their entire first choice back four against Leicester next weekend.
With Virgil Van Dijk already out long-term and Trent Alexander-Arnold recovering from an injury picked up just before the international break, Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson also suffered injuries during this international break.
Gomez has undergone surgery and is expected to be out for a large chunk of the season but Robertson could potentially return from his hamstring issue in time for the Leicester game.
And now, Liverpool could be without both of their holding midfield options, with Fabinho still ruled out by a hamstring problem and Henderson recovering from the “tightness” that forced him off against Belgium.
Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will also be missing for Liverpool, so expect to see Curtis Jones, Gini Wijnaldum and one other (potentially Henderson) in midfield.
Meanwhile, star forward Mohamed Salah will be out for a short while after testing positive for coronavirus.
Egypt’s team doctor, Mohamed Abou Elela, confirmed that the 28-year-old winger has been experiencing “mild” symptoms of COVID-19.
“He’s a mild case — he doesn’t have severe symptoms,” he told the Associated Press.
Salah must now self-isolate in Egypt before he can return to Liverpool.
