‘I will fix myself and this situation… Not only for my family, close friends or my daughter, but for me.’
Derby midfielder Jordon Ibe has revealed he is battling depression in a heartfelt post to his Instagram account.
Ibe joined Derby on a free transfer last September after his contract with Bournemouth expired in the summer. Since then he has made one first-team appearance for the Championship club.
“I want to apologise to all my fans around the world,” Ibe wrote in a message posted to his Instagram Stories on Thursday.
“I’ve find (sic) myself in a dark place, due to suffering with depression.
“It’s no scheme for the media or to have my name in your mouths, I just find things hard truly.
“I appreciate all the love and messages from everyone.
“Times are hard in general due to this pandemic. I have the full support from my family and Derby County football club.
“I will fix myself and this situation, which I’m 100 per cent committed to. Not only for my family, close friend or my daughter but for me.”
The former Liverpool man had revealed last year that he had started rehabilitation to improve his mental health.
Prior to his post on Thursday, recently appointed Derby boss Wayne Rooney indicated that he expected Ibe back in training in the coming days.
