Jose Mourinho has reportedly turned down jobs in Italy and China as he waits for Manchester United

Kevin Beirne

Jose Mourinho is so confident he will be named Manchester United manager that he has apparently turned down job offers in Italy and China.

The former Chelsea manager has been out of work since leaving Stamford Bridge earlier this season, but has been told to sit tight by the powers that be at Old Trafford, according to The Sun.

The paper claims the original plan was to have current manager Louis van Gaal depart at the end of the season and for Mourinho to step in over the summer, but that might be about to change.

United’s recent defeat at the hands of struggling Sunderland means Van Gaal’s position has become untenable to some at Old Trafford and they might just push through a move for Mourinho in the coming weeks.

While the paper does not make it clear which clubs approached the Portuguese, considering the recent influx of cash to the Chinese Super League, it’s likely Mourinho turned down a large sum of money in pursuit of his Manchester United dream.
