Jose Mourinho has left Manchester United. The Portuguese coach was made manager in May 2016.
The club made the announcement in a brief statement, which reads:
“Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.
The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.
A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager.”

Manchester United now face a bill in the region of £24million after terminating the contract the Portuguese signed less than 11 months ago.
At the time of his departure, United sit sixth in the Premier League, 19 points behind leaders Liverpool, who beat them 3-1 on Sunday in a dominant display that has since proved the final nail in the coffin.
Relations between the manager and the executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, appeared to fracture after the club did not sign a central defender this summer.
The club decided that none of the players in the position targeted by Mourinho were an upgrade on the central defenders already in the squad.
Mourinho, 55, won the League Cup and the Europa League at Old Trafford.
Former midfielder Michael Carrick was rumoured to be in the running to take over as caretaker manager, but it now appears the club will be making an external appointment.
