Jose Mourinho names James Wilson in Champions League squad

Rashford is not named in the squad... but there's no need for United fans to panic

Simon Lloyd

Jose Mourinho has named his first Champions League squad as Manchester United manager.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is not expected to return from injury until January has been named in the 25-man squad, as has young striker, James Wilson.

Wilson was handed his first team debut for United by Ryan Giggs, weeks after David Moyes’ dismissal in 2014. Despite marking the occasion – a league meeting with Hull City – with a couple of goals, first team opportunities were limited under Louis van Gaal and he was loaned out to Brighton and Derby. His last competitive game for the club came nearly two years ago. Under Mourinho, he has only appeared in a pre-season friendly at Wigan before last season.

Marcus Rashford, who is now well ahead of Wilson in the pecking order at Old Trafford, is not named in the squad as he is under 21 and can still play via Uefa’s B list rule. The same applies to goalkeeper Joel Pereira, midfielder Scott McTominay and defender/midfielder Axel Tuanzebe – all of whom make the B list.
