Jose Mourinho outlines stance on potential Zlatan Ibrahimovic return

This sounds very promising indeed

Unfinished business?

Jose Mourinho has provided an update on the possibility of Zlatan Ibrahimovic rejoining Manchester United just two months after the forward was released by the club.

Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals in 46 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side since signing on a free last summer but his debut Premier Leauge season was cut short when the Swede picked up a serious knee injury in a Europa League clash with Anderlecht in April.

One of the most valuable free agents on the market, Ibrahimovic quickly became the subject of interest for several clubs and was most recently linked with a potential return to former side AC Milan.

But it was always suggested that the 35-year-old would favour a second spell at United, where he could finish off his career on his own terms rather than have an injury force his hand.

Ibrahimovic has continued his rehabilitation at United’s training ground and has even stuck around to help out some of the younger Red Devils players during preseason, according to midfielder Paul Pogba.

And during Mourinho’s first pre-match press conference of the 2017/18 Premier League season, he explained where things currently stood between Ibrahimovic and United.

“You know he’s injured, he needs time to recover, he’s not ready to play tomorrow,” Mourinho said of the club’s top scorer last season.

“It’s not something urgent, that we are desperate to have it done or not done, I just think that he was very clear by showing what he did last year was not enough for him.

“He thinks he can do more and wants more at the highest level so we are having conversations and we are discussing the possibility of him to stay with us for the second part of the season.”
