José Mourinho doesn’t take kindly to criticism
Tottenham brought a bad run of results at Old Trafford to an end on Monday night, winning 3-0 and piling the pressure onto under fire Manchester United boss José Mourinho in the process.
Spurs fans took their chance to really tub Mourinho’s nose in it on the night, and who can blame them? As chants of ‘you’re not special anymore’ came from the away end, United’s misery was compounded as reality dawned on everyone in the ground: the Spurs fans were right.
But Mourinho is not a man to ever admit defeat, even in defeat, as shown on Monday night, when he claimed that despite losing, United won the tactical battle. Whatever helps him sleep at night.
The Portuguese manager, who has three Premier League titles to his name, has fired back at Spurs fans who mocked him on Monday night, taking aim at their barren trophy cabinet.
“They didn’t have that song when we beat them at Wembley a couple of months ago. The cup final, they had a big dream to go to; a title, they had a big dream to win, because they don’t win many,” Mourinho said.
“That night at Wembley, the United fans were singing the special one and of course they were not singing that,” he added.

United may have beaten Spurs at Wembley last season in the cup, but their humiliating loss to Spurs at Wembley in the league last season, and Monday night’s defeat should ring alarm bells at United.
Five transfer windows and several hundred millions of pounds spent since Mourinho arrived at Old Trafford, United have not shown significant improvements on the pitch. They still rely on individual moments of magic to get them over the line too often.
The Spurs fans might have a point, maybe José is not special anymore.
