Jose Mourinho’s first meeting with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City has already been scheduled

Lots of new faces

Tickets for this game will be in stratospherically high demand.

It’s handy that the Beijing National Stadium can hold 91,000.

Every one of those seats will be filled, on July 25, when Manchester United take on Manchester City as part of the International Champions Cup.

The pre-season match was announced earlier this year and tickets, when they go on sale, may eclipse the fastest-selling record set by Real Madrid when they were in China last summer.

We already knew Pep Guardiola would be the City manager by then but the identity of the United boss was unknown. Louis van Gaal was under pressure but insisting he would see out his three-season contract.

This morning’s confirmation from United, that Jose Mourinho is their new coach, now adds to spice to the friendly game.

Guardiola and Mourinho had dealings with each other during their days at Barcelona and famously clashed when the Portuguese became manager of Real Madrid.

United’s first pre-season game will be against Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai before they clash with City.
