Kimmich is out until the new year due to a lung infection

Joshua Kimmich has reportedly admitted that he ‘now wants to be vaccinated’ and regrets his previous decision to not take the vaccine earlier.

Earlier this week, the Bayern Munich midfielder confirmed that he would not play again for the rest of the year due to a lung infection he has suffered after testing positive for coronavirus two weeks ago.

The 26-year-old made headlines back in October after confirming he hadn’t received his vaccinations against coronavirus due to reservations he had over the vaccine, with his stance heavily criticised by public health experts and several other influential figures.

However, German outlet ZDF are now reporting that Kimmich regrets his previous decision to reject the vaccine and is now keen to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Generally, it was simply difficult for me to deal with my fears and concerns, which is why I was undecided for so long,” the German told ZDF.

Kimmich’s comments are his first on his current health situation, with the midfielder previously expressing his concerns about the vaccination.

The Bundesliga champions have taken a heavy stance on their playing staff who have yet to receive the vaccine, taking a cut from their salary after they were forced to self-isolate following a positive covid test.

As wells Kimmich, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is currently ‘battling symptoms’, with the former Stoke City striker also unlikely to return until the new year.

According to BILD, the unvaccinated striker continues to feel unwell after testing positive on November 24 and has been struggling with clear symptoms afterwards for over a week.
