In a season of mediocrity for their team, Manchester United fans were lifted at the news that Luke Shaw has returned to training.
The left-back featured in an Instagram post with Juan Mata as he stepped up his bid to return from the broken in a Chanmpions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven last September.
Although Louis van Gaal has been cautious in terms of putting a precise date on Shaw’s return to action, a report by The Telegraph indicated that the 20-year-old had not given up hope of featuring for United in their final few games of the season.
While any hopes of Luke Shaw making a late push for a place in England’s Euro 2016 plans appear remote, United fans the world over seemed happy enough just to see him ready to start some form of training again.
What a day, @LukeShaw23 back in #mufc training too 🙌🏻

Although if we’re honest, we’re not sure how this John Cena similarity is all that accurate.
Luke Shaw is the John Cena of football. Amazing recovery. He will end up being the greatest of all time too.

Or why Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal applause was the best way of expressing your delight at the situation.

Still, as United look to build on the feel-good factor of recent league wins over Manchester City and Everton, the news was clearly cause for celebration.

God only knows what kind of reaction we’ll see if Shaw *does* make it back into the first team before the season ends.
