‘Sometimes when I’m sleeping after a game I call out the names of my players’
Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that he gives his wife restless nights by shouting out the names of his Bayern Munich players in his sleep.
The Bayern Munich manager is thought to find it difficult to switch off from his role and often wakes wife Verena because he’s still analysing his team’s performances.
Nagelsmann – who replaced Hansi Flick in the hot-seat in July 2021 – told Bayern’s ’51’ Magazine, via Bild: “Sometimes when I’m sleeping after a game I call out the names of my players.
“My wife once told me that. Sometimes it wakes her up in the night.”
The 34-year-old often stays up late at night after a game because it takes him a while to relax after a demanding 90 minutes.
In the same magazine, Andrea Trinchieri, the coach of the Bayern Munich basketball team, also admitted that he has some bizarre nocturnal habits.
He said: “I have a notebook next to my bed – and sometimes I find notes after the game that I didn’t know I’d written down during the night.”
It’s somewhat surprising that Nagelsmann is enduing so many sleepless nights considering that his team currently boast a six-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga table.
Bayern host Nagelsmann’s former club Leipzig this Saturday in their next match, having won 16 of their opening 20 league matches.
While they might have exited the German Cup, the Bavarians still have the chance to enjoy cup success this campaign and have a Champions League last-16 tie against Red Bull Salzburg to look forward to later this month.
