To the disappointment of absolutely nobody at all, international football is boxed off for another month.
Although there are nine Premier League fixtures to be played on Saturday and Sunday, most of the hype surrounding the return of domestic football centres on the match taking place at Anfield on Monday night.
Manchester United make the trip to Merseyside to face old rivals Liverpool, who currently sit three points above them in the Premier League.
For Jurgen Klopp’s side, this has been a positive start, with many tipping Liverpool to be the title race well into the final weeks of the season. That said, the German is wary of United, and told a press conference on Friday that Jose Mourinho’s side have three world-class players at their disposal, one of which being Wayne Rooney.
Rooney has been dropped by club and country in recent weeks, but Klopp said that the England and United captain is still a danger.
“Rooney is a goal scorer and a threat. A situation like this can happen in a long career. From my side, he’s a world-class player.”
As well as Rooney, Klopp also spoke of his admiration for two of United’s summer recruits – Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba.
“They’re both world-class players and when they’re in your team they are not worse than last year, for sure.”
It promises to be a fascinating night under the lights at Anfield.
