The injury was sustained in Liverpool’s Champions League draw against Midtjylland
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that forward Diogo Jota could miss up to eight weeks with an injury ahead of the champions’ Premier League match with Fulham.
Jota, who has been ridiculously good for Klopp’s side since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer transfer window, suffered a knee injury midweek during Liverpool’s Champions League draw with Midtjylland.
In 17 games for the Reds, the Portuguese forward has scored nine times – including a hat-trick against Atalanta in their 5-0 Champions League win – somewhat alleviating the burden on forwards Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.
His absence comes at a poor time for Liverpool, who are already without the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, and means they will be without him for the busy Christmas period of fixtures.
Despite the gloom over their injury problems, Liverpool remain in strong shape entering the festive period. They go into Sunday’s match with Fulham second in the league table with a game in hand, and topped their Champions League ahead of Atalanta and Ajax.
