Liverpool’s transfer business appears to be done
Though most clubs will have concluded their transfer dealings a week ago, speculation has continued to link Liverpool with one final piece of business.
An injury to Alisson, followed by a less-than-convincing showing from Adrian in the hammering by Aston Villa, had seen some reports claim Jurgen Klopp was considering taking advantage of the domestic transfer deadline to bring in a new stand-in goalkeeper.
Premier League clubs have until October 16 to sign players from the Championship or Leagues One and Two, and one report went as far as saying the English champions had already opened talks with Stoke City’s Jack Butland over a possible switch to Anfield.
Despite this, The Mirror’s David Anderson has now appeared to rule out any such move, claiming Klopp is content with his goalkeepers and has no plans to make any additional signings before Friday’s deadline.
Butland is one of Stoke’s top earners, and the club are thought to be open to letting him leave to reduce their wage bill. With only eight months remaining on his contract, the Championship side are looking to agree a permanent departure for him rather than a loan.
With Klopp, not moving for a new goalkeeper, Adrian looks set to remain in goal for the eagerly anticipated Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Saturday, where Liverpool meet an Everton side who have won all four of their opening Premier League fixtures.
Alisson is sidelined with a shoulder injury picked up in training, and could miss the next five weeks.
