Jurgen Klopp had some lovely things to say about Loris Karius after his loan was confirmed

Jurgen Klopp had some very nice things to say about his departing goalkeeper

Loris Karius is now a Besiktas player, for the rest of the season at least. Jurgen Klopp has given him a fitting send-off.

The German goalkeeper’s loan move from Liverpool was confirmed, postponed and confirmed all in the space of the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Brighton.

Klopp’s men have started off the premier League season with three wins, nine points, seven goals scored and none conceded. The feeling around the club, this summer, that this season could bring silverware has only grown after a positive set of warm-up matches and not this solid start to the league.

Besiktas jumped the gone somewhat by releasing a video welcoming Karius during Liverpool’s latest match. It was promptly deleted only for the Turkish side to post it back on their social media channels as soon as the full-time whistle went at Anfield. Liverpool had a post primed too:

Following the game, which was settled by Mo Salah’s first-half strike, Klopp spoke to reporters – including our very own Melissa Reddy – about Karius.

“We said goodbye yesterday,” he began.

“He’s really looking forward to it, which is good. It’s good for him. I really think Loris is a fantastic goalkeeper, at a very good age.

“A lot of people spoke to me about our improved defensive things, but as good as Alisson has been in the last three games, he was not here for the games before that, it was Loris in goal and he did a lot of good things.

“Besiktas have quite an experienced team so I think they have a good chance to win the league in Turkey, so that’s cool. Now they have a really good goalkeeper, I’m really happy for him and he is happy with the opportunity as well. All good.

“We have Simon Mignolet here, a wonderful, perfect goalkeeper for us now, plus the two kids. That’s the situation for us.”
