Jurgen Klopp is on the brink of another summer signing, report claims

Simon Lloyd

Not even 24 hours on from a dismal second half showing in Basel and Jurgen Klopp is already crafting his Liverpool side for next season.

A report in The Guardian claims that the club are close to signing Mainz 05 goalkeeper Loris Karius – a man who’s already got Liverpool supporters quite excited – in a deal worth £4.7m (it’s always more believable when there’s a decimal point in there, isn’t it?)

Klopp vowed after the defeat to Sevilla on Wednesday night that he would be making changes to his squad and it seems the 22-year-old will be his first summer signing.

News of Karius’s arrival will mean increased competition for Simon Mignolet, who has remained Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper since Klopp arrived at the club in October. But if he can’t force his way ahead of the Belgian, there’s a fair chance he can put in a better shift at left-back than the one Alberto Moreno put in against Sevilla.
