Jurgen Klopp reveals truth about Manchester United talks

As his Liverpool team prepare to take on Manchester United for the first time in his reign, Jurgen Klopp has made a big revelation.

The German has admitted he was offered the chance to take over at Old Trafford when Sir Alex Ferguson retired, but that the timing wasn’t right.

He was approached by the club towards the end of the 2012/13 season, the year that his Borussia Dortmund side reached the Champions League final.

‘I didn’t hear about a real offer (from United) but, if there was, I could not have done it,’ Klopp is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

‘I first had to finish the job with Dortmund and then think about other things,’ he said, adding that talks in April 2013 were ‘an honour’.

Klopp, who described Sir Alex Ferguson as the “John Lennon of football”, would not be drawn on whether the iconic manager approached him directly to be his successor.
