Karim Benzema scored a spectacular penalty against Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.

City opened the scoring through Kevin De Bruyne in the second minute, making Champions League history after his early strike became the quickest netted in a semi-final.

The opener beat the previous record set by Joshua Kimmich, who found the net in the third minute of Bayern Munich’s showdown own against Madrid in May 2018.

The home side made it 2-0 thanks to Gabriel Jesus’ strike in the 11th minute, before Madrid pulled a goal back in the 33rd minute courtesy of captain Benzema.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side restored their two-goal cushion when Phil Foden covered in the 53rd minute of the match.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men reacted well and made it 3-2 through Vini Jr, who burst past City substitute Fernandinho and slotted his strike past Ederson.

The Premier League league-leaders once again restored their two-goal lead when Bernardo Silva smashed home from the edge of the penalty area.

City appeared as though they would be able to see out the remainder of the game, until the away side were awarded a penalty following Aymeric Laporte’s handball.

Madrid’s talisman Benzema stepped up to take the spot-kick and produced a wonderful panenka penalty to make it 4-3.

Guardiola’s men were able to see out the remainder of the match, and the Premier League side will take a 4-3 lead to Madrid next week.
