It’s been a record breaking season for KDB

Manchester City talisman Kevin De Bruyne has been crown the Premier League Player of the Season after a season in which he equalled the Premier League assists record.

The Belgian midfielder recorded 20 assists during 2019/20 season, equalling the record previously solely held by Thierry Henry, as he guided Manchester City to second place in the league.

Pep Guardiola’s side finished 18 points behind league winners Liverpool in what was a disappointing domestic campaign for the club. For De Bruyne, though, it has been widely considered one of his most impressive campaigns in a City shirt.

In total, De Bruyne was involved in 33 goals for City during the campaign, contributed 13 goals of his own.

The 29-year-old won the award ahead of a host of strong nominees, including Liverpool stars Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane, Southampton forward Danny Ings, Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Nick Pope of Burnley.

The award represents a positive end to a week in which De Bruyne was part of a City team which once again failed to progress past the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Though they were strong favourites going into their one-off tie with Ligue Un Lyon, a combination of questionable team selection and profligacy in front of goal saw a ruthless Lyon side progress at their expense.
