Eddie Howe was disappointed with the players who didn’t applaud the fans
Kieran Trippier was seen trying to get his Newcastle United teammates to clap the fans after the Magpies exited the FA Cup at the hands of League One side Cambridge United.
The 31-year-old right-back made his debut for the club on Saturday after making the £12.5 million move from La Liga giants Atlético Madrid earlier this week.
Eddie Howe’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Us, with Joe Ironside’s strike in the 56th minute sealing a famous victory for the away side.
Newcastle – who fielded a relatively strong side against the EFL outfit – again failed to impress the supporters inside St James’ Park, which was made even worse when some players failed to clap the home fans.
According to Ciaran Kelly, Trippier urged his teammates to show their appreciation to the Newcastle fans after the game.
However, several of the players walked off down the tunnel straight after the full-time whistle.
While no specific players were mentioned in the report, Trippier was one of very few players that stood and applauded the fans.

Speaking after the game, manager Eddie Howe admitted that he was disappointed with the conduct of the players who didn’t clap the supporters inside the stadium.
He explained: “We have a way of working and my personal opinion is that we should always appreciate the fans and thank them for coming and thank them for supporting the team.
“Sometimes, that’s very difficult to do when you haven’t had a positive result. Some players probably want to just immediately leave that situation, but we encourage them to recognise the supporters.
“Sometimes, that’s the most important time to do it when the result hasn’t been good so we have to stand up, take the criticism but still acknowledge the people who have paid big money to come and watch us.
“I never run from that moment. I don’t think that’s right.”
The Magpies, who currently sit 19th in the Premier League having won just one league game all season, have exited the FA Cup at the third round stage six times in the last 10 years.
Trippier’s arrival on Tyneside will undoubtedly be a boost for relegation-threatened Newcastle, and the former Tottenham defender has admitted that he ‘loves a challenge’.
Having worked under Howe before when the pair were at Burnley, the England international will be clued-up on his management style.
