Someone check on Florentino
Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid might not be the done deal we all thought it was.
Despite months of intense speculation linking the soon-to-be-out-of-contract Paris Saint-Germain forward with a move to the Spanish capital, it now seems there is at least some chance he might stay put after all.
Having failed to agree an extension to his deal at PSG over the last 18 months, it now seems the club’s Qatari owners have had a rummage down the back of the couch, stumping up a contract offer which would see Mbappe earn something close to £1m a week.
According to Miguel Delaney in the Independent, the exact salary offer isn’t clear, but it is thought to be ‘far in excess of £500,000’ a week.
Mbappe is thought to be considering the offer (no shit!), which is believed to be significantly more than anything Real could afford.

Spare a thought, then, for poor old Florentino Perez, who witnessed Mbappe’s brilliance in the flesh on Tuesday as he watched him score the only goal of the game as PSG beat Real in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League clash.
Perez is said to have been left furious by Real’s defensive approach to the game and is thought to be pinning his hopes on Mbappe’s arrival being the dawn of an exciting new new era at the Bernabeu. The idea of 23-year-old opting to remain in Paris will do nothing to lift his mood.
The same report points out that such a huge offer could have implications for PSG’s attempts to sign Paul Pogba, who is also a free agent this summer. PSG are thought to want a France international – ideally from Paris – as one of their team’s stars. Should Mbappe stay where he is, Pogba may not be quite so desirable and the reported €600,000-a-week wages he has been offered may be allocated elsewhere.
