Mbappe made the remarks after collecting Ligue 1’s player of the season award

Kylian Mbappe has told Paris Saint-Germain that he may leave the Ligue 1 champions in the summer to “take more responsibility”.

Speaking after he collected the award for being named Ligue 1’s player of the season, the 20-year-old – who joined PSG from rivals AS Monaco in 2018 – admitted that he may need to ply his trade “elsewhere” to achieve his goals.

“I feel that it is time for me to have more responsibility. Maybe here in Paris, I would be happy, or maybe somewhere else then. In any case thanks everyone,” he said after collecting the award, before addressing his remarks at the post-ceremony mixed zone.

“I said what I had to say,” he said, not denying to perceived meaning of his comments. “When you are in such an occasion you can send messages, I think I have sent mine. If I speak more it will be too much and that is not the message I wish to send.”

Should he decide to leave the French champions, Mbappe will have his choice of each of the world’s elite football clubs. Widely considered one of the best footballers playing the game today, there is likely no team in the world today that would not deem him a considerable upgrade on what they already have.
