Arsenal’s second and final goal at Old Trafford on Wednesday night has been ruled as a Marcos Rojo own goal
Alexandre Lacazette has tweeted the Premier League about their decision to record one of Arsenal’s goals against Manchester United as a Marcos Rojo own goal.
Having gifted possession to the visitors in the second-half, the Argentine defender attempted to atone for his error with a last-ditch sliding tackle to prevent Lacazette from shooting. In doing so, it appeared he’d nudged the ball beyond his own goalkeeper and into the corner of the goal.
At first glance, it seemed like it was Rojo who had the last touch; a couple of replays later, it did not. As Lacazette went crashing to the ground, the ball made contact with his shin before trickling in – something the Premier League’s review failed to spot.
After the game, a tweet from the Premier League’s official Twitter confirmed that after looking at it, it would officially go down as a Rojo own goal – something Lacazette was quick to question.
Really bro ? 🤔

Though the goal restored Arsenal’s lead at Old Trafford, their joy was short-lived. Almost immediately after the game restarted, a mix up in defence allowed Jesse Lingard to draw United level with the final goal of the game.
The 2-2 draw prolongs Arsenal’s long unbeaten run which many will expect them to extend when they host Huddersfield Town at the weekend.
